Have you ever pondered upon the thought of having a world where everyone is equal?

It sounds just as perfect but the reality is that it is quite unachievable. When we think about equality it is deep concept in itself. It highlights a plethora of idealistic scenarios like equality in monetary terms, equality in terms of race, religion, gender, intellect etc. 

Gender equality or equality in terms of race can be achieved if all of us are ready to change with times and go against societal norms. But do you believe that every age group, culture, religion or rather even a small peer, would agree to this completely? 

To obtain equality is any aspect is very idealistic. A greater ratio of equality can be achieved with constant efforts over a period of time, but ultimate equality is a utopia in every sense.

Lets discuss a view where we would have conflicting opinions. Let me ask everyone a question. 

How many of you believe everyone’s intellect must be equal?

Ever thought of a world where there would be no prodigy, instead everyone would have the same knowledge acquiring capacity. Well, this would have lots of negative complications too. Everyone would be competing to get the same job, same salary and even same living accommodations! Everyone would invest in the same shares- no one will get a profit or loss. It will lead to economic instability, to such an extent that it will halt economic growth completely. Everyone would demand the same product and be supplied with the same. This will cause ultimate scarcity of all our factors of production and will turn the world upside down for us. Not only this, it would also impact the development in science as when everybody would have the same thought process, discover the same thing and no progress will be seen.

Equality in race and religion both are like two sides of the coin. If everyone starts to follow the same race and religion, it will imply and preach the same ideals. The creative assortment of culture and creativity that we obtain due to this difference today would no longer be the same. 

Let’s take another vital constituent of equality. Gender equality for instance. Everyone loves to debate on why both genders are equal. But in reality that is not the case. I believe it depends on inherent skills or the ones that one acquires by sheer hard work and perseverance. There can be women who are fighter pilots, on the other hand there can be men who excel at art as well. There are great male artists in our history itself- Leonardo da Vinci, Michaelangelo etc, so to make generalized assumptions is what takes us far from achieving equality. Making preconceived notions about anything is what is misleading. We need to stop judging a book by its cover to bring about a positive change. I certainly do believe in gender equality but more than that, it is equal opportunities that matter. If given an environment to nourish and develop, irrespective of the gender barrier, the skills can be honed better. Hence, we must all break free from the societal evils that pin us down. We must develop our ideas of what “equality” as a concept is. The gravity of the underlined meaning must be understood well enough before we stereotype the roles.

So, to bring about a change, we must endorse equal opportunities more than equality in any sense.
